In collaboration with the Enterprise Wireless Alliance (EWA), the USMSS participates in virtually every wireless policy and allocation proceedings that affects member organizations and the provision of USMSS communication services to customers. Recent activities have included participation in the FCC’s 900 MHz auction proceeding, VHF/UHF narrowbanding, OTARD compliance matters, and wireless network deployment opportunities in the 3.65 GHz band.
In late 2005, USMSS joined EWA and other industry associations in a letter to FCC Chairman Martin requesting that, as part of the effort to reorganize the Commission, that resources be “assigned and dedicated to efficiently regulate the hundreds of thousands of licensees that our organizations directly and indirectly represent. Ideally, a separate division, distinct from public safety, would be created, which division would be delegated responsibility to implement the Commission’s decisions on operational rules and to license the thousands of applications submitted each year for business and industrial enterprise communications systems.” Full text of the letter may be reviewed at [site].
To stay fully informed of these and other critical advocacy initiatives, USMSS members are encouraged to participate in EWA sponsored “Regulatory Forum” teleconferences that are held every other Tuesday morning ay 11:00 a.m. (EST), during which matters before the FCC and the industry are discussed. There is no cost to participate and attendees are welcome to ask questions and comment on topics presented. Topics of discussion and teleconference instructions are circulated to all members in advance of each Regulatory Forum.
